Project Akhal Teke Horses
In their native country Turkmenistan they
are called Argamaks or Sacred Horses. These horses were bred in the
Akhal oasis by the Teke
tribe in Central Asia and were treasured by Emperors for thousands of
years.
Their extreme stamina, speed, hardiness, loyalty to their owners and
a coat with often a golden, silver or copper metallic sheen made
them the favorite mounts for leaders.
It is said
that Alexander The Great's famous horse Bucephalus was an Akhal
Teke.
Akhal Tekes are the ancestors of the English
Thoroughbred.
There are currently about 4,000 registered Akhal-Tekes in the world,
mostly in Russia and Turkmenistan, 457 are
currently registered in Northamerica.
